Oooh Christmas Tree…
As in so many families, we have several oh so different food choices in ours. Vegetarian, conventional, raw. On top of that some severe food allergies. Figuring out a dinner that is a fit for everyone feels like putting together one of these daunting puzzles of which you can’t tell the difference between one piece or the other. It took me weeks to come up with a waterproof plan.
Becoming raw and being passionate about food was another factor that put some heat on my fire! I wanted to throw the best raw dinner parties ever and well, I did. Even my father loved my raw food, not knowing it was “raw”. That was pretty cool! But it came with a price. Me! It took me a week each time to “recover.” So last year I decided to do things differently after realising a few things. Listen at my video below to hear how…
3 TIPS THAT KEEP YOU FROM STRESSING OUT FOR XMAS
- Don’t freak out! It is your family, not the Queen! (Although yes, we love treating our loved ones as Kings and Queens but that is something totally different!) They will love you whatever you serve and however you dress up the tree and the table and your house. What they care for is that you still have the energy to have a good time with them. It is not about the food but about sitting together in quiet and peace and being able to enjoy the warmth of their companionship. It’s Christmas, not Competition!
- Don’t force your own food choice upon others. Being enthusiastic health promotors, we sometimes forget that not everyone is ready for our food (message). Even if it is delicious, beautiful, stylish and served with class. The first time my boy’s (ex) girlfriend ate a complete raw Xmas dinner, she was ill for two days. Detox. Now of course I think it is better to be ill because of a detox than because of meat but she never wanted to taste my food. Ever. Again. That was when I realised that I would always have an alternative for guests with conventional food choices. Well, except for meat. I also realised that there is a far better way to make your guests wanna indulge your food…
- Seduce your family with lovely raw food and other choices that are more into their own league without “betraying” your own principles! How? Simply organise a “potluck“! Let everyone bring some tapas and a short description of their fingerfood/snack (with ingredients), enough for the amount of members. Pull up a large buffet table, spread the love and place the menu cards in place. No everyone can pick their own choices, read what’s in there and avoid what they don’t want or can’t eat. This way no one needs to “justify” their “no”, everybody can stay relaxed because there is something for every preference. And you… can stay raw without another discussion! Isn’t that cool?! You will see that your food will be tasted in a total different way and that they will love it in that context. You are no longer the “freak” of the family AND they are seducing them with your best treats. A raw pie or pudding, nice raw decadent pizza slices always do the trick!
I had to learn with trial and error, too and found that this solution works so well for everyone that I can now relax at the table and truly enjoy the feast!
Merry Raw Christmas!
